Today was our last full day in Bangkok. I have really enjoyed our stay here. I have come to the conclusion that I feel very at ease in big cities. I love NY City and am really enjoying life in Abu Dhabi. Bangkok reminds me of NY City. I like the energy, the hustle bustle, and the international flare that is often available in large cities. I love the restaurants and the shopping! I like being able to walk out of the hotel and walk to places.
After lunch we were picked up again by the Tailor for our first fitting! We were so excited to see if our pieces were as nice in person as we had imagined! We were ushered into fitting rooms and given a few pieces to try. Some were not completely finished so that minor adjustments could be made. This was really fun! There were fitters running around us pinning and poking and talking in another language! They were very professional and were sympathetic to our requests to tighten here and let out there! They gave their honest opinion about the various fabrics and what would work and what wouldn’t. It was neat to see our pieces! They met our expectations! They would bring over all the pieces tonight to our hotel with a tailor and we were to try everything on then and they would make the final adjustments for the next day – the day we were scheduled to leave!!
After this whirlwind of fittings, they offered to drive us back to the hotel or somewhere else. We wanted to explore some more so they took us to the huge shopping area! Siam Paragon Mall. It was way too crowded but great people watching! We noticed there were mostly young students walking around. This mall is made up of different buildings that offer specific items – one for electronics, one for sporting goods, one for moderate clothing and finally one for very upscale products!
We decided to take the sky-train (above ground subway) back to the hotel. This was much faster – and more fun than sitting in a taxi stuck in traffic! When we arrived back near to our hotel we decided to check out the famous PatPong night market! At about 5:30pm every night this narrow street comes to life with stalls selling everything you can imagine! We had to see for ourselves! You couldn’t go near a stall without someone coming up and asking if you’d like to see – or them wanting to show you what they had to offer. It became difficult after a while because all we wanted to do was look. Though Leon got a bit excited when he saw some watches that seemed pretty decent!!
The nightlife in Bangkok is amazing – the city really coms to life! We loved just walking around and absorbing it all – seeing the sidewalk vendors selling foods and trinkets, checking out all the different people, and the local stores. This was a very busy 3 days! We really enjoyed our stay in Bangkok! I think I would come back!
