ABU DHABI!!! Who would ever think I would end up in Abu Dhabi? Well I am here now. And I like it here a lot. I have made many friends and they are very nice and funny, (which is always good!) I have adjusted to the school and to living here very well. I have not hit rock bottom yet and I hope I don’t! Unlike my sister I have not gone crazy and asked Mom and Dad to send me back. Fortunately, she likes its here now a whole lot!
I enjoy many things about it here. I like my classes at The American Community School. They are very fun and are not too hard and not too easy. They have many after school activities, and they have a lot of “parties”. I don’t mean like a party party. I mean like ROC (Random Organized Chaos) Night and a Halloween party. Those kind of things that the student council comes up with. We recently had spirt week. It was very fun. On Sunday it was crazy hair day. On Monday it was Viper day. The sand vipers are our mascot. On Tuesday it was PJ day! It was very relaxing! I wanted to fall a sleep again. But I didn’t. On Wednesday it was Character vs. Character day. The 6th Graders had to be Gangsters. The 7th graders (me) had to be Hippies. And the 8th graders had to be (you will laugh!) …… UNICORNS!! Only a few kids dressed up as unicorns though. A few more kids were hippies. But no one was a gangster. Then on the last day, Thursday, it was twin day! My friend and I were twins. We dressed up in black and white. It was fun.
As you might have read in Elise’s blog post, she has 2 different class schedules! You would think that that is a lot and it is! Just not compared to me. The middle school has 4 different schedules! Yes four! We have an A day, B day, C day, and a D day. On every day we have 7 different classes. All the teachers like what they do. My math teacher is very funny, she is also my Science teacher. She uses different voices sometimes. I also have a class called Oasis. Oasis is just a small 15 minute class where we just talk about things that the teachers chose to talk about. For an example we were talking about our bucket lists and what we had on them. On Tuesday we have an Assembly where the principal comes and shares with us what is going on. I also have Language Arts. I really like my teacher for this class. She has helped me learn how to be a better writer. I am also taking Spanish. Man is that class a hand full! My teacher is from Venezuela so her English is very hard to understand. She also doesn’t teach us a lot, but some how we learn things. I have to take Health. In Health we have talked about cliques, germs, eating disorders, things a long those lines. So far in Social Studies we have done research on a place or topic in Turkey for our Week With Out Walls trip to Capaidocia, Turkey. Also we just learned about Black Gold ( or in other words Oil) in the Middle East. Mrs. Stairs (my L.A. teacher) also teaches this class. I like Social Studies a lot. Another one of my classes that I have is P.E. or in other words the Physical Education. So far we have done swimming, rock climbing, soccer, basketball, field hockey, touch rugby, and flag football ( and I mean real american football just with out tackling). The last class I have is Physical Theater. In theater we did a skit on the 4 elements ( Earth/Metal, Wind, Water, and Heat). My group did the Earth/ Metal. It was a really good and funny skit. We also did mimes. For my mime group we did a restaurant theme. That skit was also really funny and really good. In my Theater class another 7th grader and I were the only 7th graders, but then she switched classes and I then became the only 7th grader with a bunch of 8th graders. But I made some friends eventually.
It took a little while for me to have a real group of friends, but now I have a great group of friends. On the weekend my friends and I like to have sleepovers, go to the mall, watch movies at the movie theater in the mall, and go bowling in the mall. One of my friends moved here from Miami, Florida! So she and I know a lot about Florida and talk about it. Another one of my friends has lived in the States, Mexico and China and one other place. I also have a friend who moved here from Kuwait ( a small country near Iraq, and it is also safe there as well as here). Another friend moved here from Malaysia. People have moved here from all over the world. I enjoy meeting people from all over the world!
I have joined many after school clubs here like the Green Team, where we help the school to recycle, and the TV production club. I also just joined a Cooking Class! I hope to join the school’s Track and Field team. I also take dance with Elise. I am doing Hip Hop and Jazz and Ballet. Elise and I realized that 3 classes was a little hard since the classes were far away and we had a lot of home work, so once the semester ended we decided to drop Ballet since we knew the basics.
What I don’t like about Abu Dhabi is that there are not that many stores that I can go to for shopping. All the girls my age go to the same store, Forever 21. And at least one person has the exact same shirt as what you bought! One girl has the same shirt as another girl and whenever she wears it, the other girl ends up wearing it too! So the girl always needs to bring a sweatshirt to cover up! So the stores are one thing that I don’t like about here, but that is not a huge thing to worry about. I also don’t like that it doesn’t rain. I miss the rain a lot. I miss walking in the rain or dancing in the rain. I have always wanted to run in the rain, but I never got the chance to. While there is a lot of good food here in the groceries and restaurants, sometimes I can’t find the foods I like to eat. I really miss 7-11 slushies! But I can live through that!
We have done a lot of traveling already! In September we went to Jordan-where I got to ride a camel and a donkey in Petra! And I went to Turkey with my class in November! We just came back from Thailand! I enjoyed Thailand but it was kind of hot. I got to pet and feed a tiger! I love Tigers!! It was a baby tiger too! I also got to ride on an Elephant. It even rained one day! It had been a while since I had seen rain. Elise and I ran out side to go in the rain. We even danced a little! Then we saw people watching, but at that same moment the rain started to slow down and we went inside.
I really like it here in Abu Dhabi! I didn’t think I would have adjusted to it so quickly. I miss my friends in Florida and my cousins, but I email, skype and of course use Facebook to keep in touch with them! We’ll be home this summer and I’ll get to see them and tell them all about Abu Dhabi!
Happy New Year!
