Spring Break Trip trip NYC!!
Tomorrow the girls & I are flying back to the US to spend our Spring Break visiting colleges. When did that happen – when did Elise grow up? Looking at colleges – is this for real?!
One of the challenges of this ex-pat lifestyle that I did not anticipate 2 years ago is the time needed to tour college campus’. I thought back to my senior year and remembered traveling to schools in the northeast with my Mom and then to 2 in the Mid West with my Dad. Most of these trips were done in the car and on weekends in the Fall. This obviously isn’t an option when one is 8000 miles away! While we had visited a few schools last summer, our list was still long! Our original thought was to visit schools in the NYC area, Chicago, and Boston all this summer. When we actually sat down to look at the calendar and plan these trips we realized that this wasn’t going to all be able to happen! So we decided that a road trip to the NY area was going to have to happen over Spring Break!
I am looking forward to being in the States actually but I’m not looking forward to the actual travel! Changing planes, going through security, waiting for bags, getting from Newark to NYC. Oh well it’s all part of the journey!
We have scheduled 2 1/2 days to be tourist and see family & friends! Even though we had at one point lived in NYCity we hadn’t been tourists for a long time and I was anxious to walk around, stop at our favorite stores, eat at our favorite restaurants, and visit the 9/11 Memorial. We each have our lists of items we must get while we’re in the States! My list includes practical items – contact solution, toiletries, makeup, shoes – OK so maybe shoes aren’t practical! Top of Elise’s list – a prom dress from Bloomingdale’s!
Wait I thought this was a college touring trip!
