Sunday Football
Who would have thought that the one thing we as a family would miss the most would be watching Sunday Football!
While I couldn’t tell you the name of which quarterback played for what team or even who won last year’s Super Bowl, Sunday NFL football games were something we always watched as a family! The TV would go on at noon and be on all day into the evening! We didn’t always sit for the entire afternoon (OK so maybe Leon did!) but the girls and I would come and go, perhaps doing school work or our hobbies while it was on.
I guess we also equate football season with the Fall – our favorite season. That is something we definitely have missed since leaving NY! I think of cooler weather, sweaters, homemade soup, and of course my many years in the marching band! That is where I actually learned about football! You might as well understand the game if you are going to have to stand next to the field for 3 hours during every home game!
While NFL games are actually shown here in the UAE, because they are shown live they come on starting at 9pm on Sundays, and we’re not quite that big of a fan! And you have to remember that our weekend is Friday and Saturday here so Sunday is a work/school day. Though Elise did get up at 4:30am last year to watch the Super bowl. Well it was probably also to watch the half time show! Unfortunately we don’t get the commercials here which I find to be better than the game sometimes! We did also record the game so we could watch it at a more reasonable time.
Maybe it was the family togetherness that we enjoyed?… The closest thing we have to that now is our Friday Brunch (see post dated April 27th 2012)! I guess I should be happy that we don’t watch as much TV here but I do miss our Sunday football!
